replacement unit I'm considering: Anyone using the Dell Alienware's 15R3 for field editing use? Any knowledge that the IPS display is non-calibrating or inferior due to not being bright enough for use in daylight or lack of dedicated number keyboard... any personal known issues of deficient color gamut coverage\ poor display overall, other no-likes? I'd be using the 1920x1080 monitor resolution setting I suppose.
Specs I got was adobe rgb:71, srgb:92, ntsc:67, contrast770, brightness:300 , black level:0.39
thank you for your time and input....

My guess is this is a $1200 to $1300 machine. You might check out the alternatives at https://www.pcmag.com/best-deals-today (external link). At least at the moment I see an XPS 15 which I think has a better screen that the alien line. The XPS 15 doesn't have the 1 TB HD, but then that is something I personnaly would not want in my laptop chassis anyway since I prefer a large external drive as my main repository.

Hey...

I have an 15R2... I use it for my photo editing. Before that I had (and still have) an XPS. While my screen is 4k, it has the same specs. It's not great - just okay. The first thing I did was pull the spinning disk out and replaced it with another M.2 drive. Boot up time is only a couple seconds faster than my XPS. I have a different series CPU. Battery life is good. The Killer A/C card is terrible. The machine is heavy and fairly uncomfortable due to the edges and shapes. Knowing what I know now, if I had to do it again, I'd get an XPS instead. It's a good machine but I am underwhelmed.

I have a ColorMunki for my screen. It does a good job calibrating the screen and color rendition is good but the screen is mostly lackluster... The XPS screen is much better, both the original and the replacement.

Keep in mind, these are my opinions and YMMV. The machine is fully capable for doing the things you may want to do with it.

Good luck with your search!

Moonshiner, thank you for your time and the specific input on strengths\weaknesses, you've made some nice highlights.

Killer driver update if it's applicable: https://www.windowscentral.com ...560-connection-drop-issue (external link)
