Hey guys,

I just put together this video of a more legit way to create twilight shots that are actually shot during the daytime. So far, this has been a great upsell for me in the real estate realm, especially with the ability to do many in a single day.

Nice process but have a question.

I understand the whole process except for the use of the flash frames. Two questions

1. They seem to be being used to add areas of light for which there is no logical light source. Not sure why you want that but wouldn't that be achieved just as well with a bit of dodging (without causing the shadow issue in #2)?

2. You specifically mention shooting your base image in cloudy/diffuse light to avoid shadows but masking in the flash frames creates shadows on the front wall (from the plants etc standing close to the front). These look odd because it is night and there is no logical light source for them.

The interesting part, to me, about the flash frames on the exterior, is it’s very much a trend to add a ton of light to twilight shots with flash nowadays. The more you think about it, the more this method of doing it in the middle of the day is very much like that method; with both methods we’re just pouring artificial light on.

It’s not always easy to put those together while talking. I’d say the reason I went over adding light to the exterior is brushing in just a touch in a few spots can really help sell the feel of a nighttime shot. If you notice the light on the chimney, which I did like the look of the painted light there, you could never get that look dodging.
