"Man Vs. The Heavens"

Gas flares vie with the stars to light the night sky. In 2007 Ecuador's president, Rafael Correa's government put forward the Yasuni-ITT initiative, this was a novel experiment in which funds were asked of the international community in order to preserve one of the world's most biodiverse regions. By 2013, of the $3.6B that was asked for, $336M had been pledged and only 13.3M had been delivered. Correa liquidated the Yasuni-ITT initiative by executive order, and oil companies are set to continue expanding into the park.

Great photos, depressing to hear that the park is under threat.

Nice shots, bad news! you would hope the oil companies would help out. Reap profits and run.

A great series of shots!

As for the oil companies, you can punish them by not driving and not heating your home.

Yeah, because drilling for oil in unspoiled lands is the only way that these things can be done...not!

It is a beautiful series, well done !

Sadly even if they did Ecuador have a history of not keeping agreements so it might not have helped (they have defaulted on their debts for example).
