Haha! I'm tired too. Currently night #7 here in the cage.
Yep I learned the hard way to keep the sound on for shutter release.
Just discovered the RX10iv has the same ability, but at 24fps; keeping it's sound on too but
I did freak out a bird the other morning with even the quiet shutter so I did put 'sounds' on My Menu.
My Menu is another great addition to the a9 (and RX10iv).

I wonder though, on Canons in the past I could program so when I pushed 'menu' it would go first to My Menu no matter if I was in a menu
or where in the menu I was. I can't see where to get the Sonys to do this even if they can, would be nice.

I think my focus GAS wise is the FE 16-35GM now I've see astro results with it. After liberating some monies
I'll try the Greentoe route first. But that's next spring after my annual tax raping.

for astro i think the Venue Laowa 15mm F2 is your best beat. i'm thinking about it.

I have the Laowa 15mm f4 macro lens and it seems to work well for astro...but then, I'm certainly no expert on the subject. Laowa also has a 12mm f2.8 lens.

I like the hard stop at infinity focus on my Laowa 15. Here's a photo of nothing in particular and facing East from the other night testing the lens for night skies. I did catch some nice aircraft lights. :-)

We'll know later today!
Pretty exciting times for many studying the camera bodies.
I'll be surprised if the 400mm is announced today though after listening to the Sony exec interview
but who know :)

Vinz I hear ya but when I count (other than vacation) the number of actual days here at home I can do any astro, even wide field astro, the number is less than 30 times a year and that is when everything aligns correctly (that's astro humor, get it?).
The Laowa is really tempting, you might remember I added the B18 hoping, the Sigma looks really nice (but I don't want to adapt). We all want hard stop at infinity but is there truly one that does? Gene says the Laowa 25mm Macro does but does that cross to the other Laowas? Fred at FM says not quite.
More truth. For the landscaping I do (rare again unless on vacation) the 16-35/4 has been a great friend, now having the 12-24 landscape really is covered in my kit and as I've seen on the last three trips (even in Iceland) the 24-70 got used a lot for landscapes.

Enough rambling, me using you all as a sounding block!
I just need to chill out. End of November eagles, February bids in Florida.....really won't be until April and I might just keep at it with the Batis for Milky Way.

2018's big trip is 25 days in the Canadian maritimes so I'm still good there, but the following year Poof says its back to Alaska...here's my dream kit for that trip-
a9 + 100-400gm for the bears
16-35gm for landscapes
RX10iv for everything else
Now that would be a small concise kit!

technically, why can't any makers make a 24-105 F2.8 why always F4. is it not possible? it would have been perfect for events.

Cause it would be huge? There's a reason the 24-70 2.8 is called "The Brick".

Tamron made a 28-105 f2.8 in the past, don't know about the size. A modern remake would be cool, just don't let sigma do it, they love large lenses :-P

5.6 wouldn't suit for Milky Way.
Remember when I did F4 using the 12-24, I was shocked by it but F4 is still too slow.

Not shabby even with the light polution.
And the more megapixels (A7rii) really one should limit the exposure even more-
