yah it sucks because I bought a few apps. is there a hardware inside the cam to enable the apps? i've read somewhere that the addition of dual card slots removed the apps capability. i thought it's just a software thing. I hope Alex from Magic Lantern will work on Sony firmware.

I'm not an engineer, but I don't see why the apps would need specific hardware....the sony OS itself is a modified version of android so it should be pretty straight forward to run apps. If anything, with the front-end LSI optimizing the movement of data downstream allowing for better AF, faster buffer, less read noise, etc....you'd think that the newer cameras would be able to run the playmemories apps better than the older models.

Carlo what do you think of the 24-105 for wedding and studio works?

Good for studio, but F4 is less than ideal for weddings...at least for me. I like to expose for the ambient even when using flash, so this usually means I need to open up the aperture to let more light in. With a dual camera set-up there is less need for a zoom like a 24-105. I think the 24-105 is best suited for things like travel where you want a lot of focal lengths at your disposal, but don't want to lug around a lot of gear.

Hey gang. It's been a while. I haven't posted much of anything most of the summer. Had to go in for surgery for a femoral hernia and had lots of other stuff going on. I feel like it took me a month to catch up on this thread. Lots of great pictures and informative conversations as usual. Just figured I would post some of the stuff I managed to take over the course of the summer and my time off. Sounds like everyone on the board is doing well. Love all your work.

PlayMemories should go away in name only; the apps are great and Sony should be working to enhance them, not kill them.

Why the hell does just about every single issue in 2017 have to be about destroying all the progress of the past?

Agree that the name should be changed and the overall app store should be overhauled. I don't know what Sony has in store.

It's a good (apps) reason to keep the A7Rii :)

Thanks to you guys and especially Gene two strip boxes arrived, a couple of umbrellas, and
several flash holders.
So the learning process begins....going to be a while. Way lots to learn about this genre--might just
stick to birds :)
Anyway my first liquor bottle photography.
I got the bear in Kaktovik, the vodka from the kitchen.
The white line that runs down the left side of the bottle, not good right?
Took lots of experimentation to get rid of a lot of reflections.
Any ideas suggestion I'm all ears.
I think first thing I need to learn is what makes a good pic of a bottle?

Mickey I think you're right. I'm good with that. Truth is for 98 percent of any wildlife I'd ever encounter
100-400 +1.4 or 2.0 is way more than adequate. It'd be the early morning or later afternoon where the F4
gets used. Hey, when I was in Panama last year we were in a canoe with this guy from Hungary. I watched
him labor under a Canon 400/2.8 for the three days he and his wife were with us and I'm telling you it was labor.
One thing to roll a cart over to the sidelines of a game and stand with that lens on a monopod or tripod---another
to carry it around in that heat and humidity. Yep my old 400DOiii looks mighty good when compared in that light :)

My kneck and hands hurt just thinking about that poor Hungarian!

You're doing it right :)

I really like how you integrated your shot of the bottle with your shot of the Polar Bear. I think for photographing bottles, it's more a matter of controlling reflections rather than eliminating them. There are a lot of Youtube tutorials on the subject that I've watched and adapted to what I have on hand and improvisation. I still have a long way to go too but I enjoy the journey.

Here are a few:

Welcome back. Awesome moment you captured here.

Thanks. I was pretty happy with capturing that moment because she was off to the races as you can imagine soon after...lol

By the way, loving your landscapes as I was catching up on all the posts. I really love those B&W photos using that Joel T style. I have his videos and can't find the time to really sit down and learn the workflow with the young kids and busy schedule these days. Plus I don't have any ND Filters (10 stop or higher). I was thinking maybe I could use the SR app but I don't think I would really get the same results in the sky with only the SR app.

you could get really long streaky results with SR, with wider focal lengths, you dont even need ND's, but normal to telephoto, it's recommended to use ND's
