Point & Shoot for Live Music / Concerts

As I'm sure most of you are aware, you are unlikely to get into a live concert with a DSLR, so I am looking for a good small point and shoot camera to take to gigs. I bought a Canon SX730 HS for this purpose about six weeks ago and it really has disappointed. Images are super grainy, even at 800 ISO and underexposing with a view to attempt to bring it back in Lightroom, the shots are disappointing as the camera does not shoot RAW. It also has a real hard time focusing when zoomed in by 50% or more, it will often take half dozen attempts to focus, even more focusing attempts are required when the lighting is fast changing.

I was looking at the Sony RX100 V as it has a larger 1" sensor and a popup EVF, which will help with stability of shots.

Would this be a good choice, or are there other recommendations you might have?

Don't know how far away you are shooting from but don't expect too much from about more than 50' away. I use a Canon G16 and it is pretty good. Shoots RAW. Video is quite good even if further back too. I have shot video at a stadium concert from far back and it is pretty good.

Thanks for responding, I ended up impulse buying the RX100 V, so we will see how well it works in a few weeks when Foo Fighters comes to my town. The reason I went with the Canon was the 40x zoom, but it goes from 3.1 - 5.6 when zoomed in, so I lose even more light when zoomed in meaning nothing less than the max 3200 will do, tiny sensor, high ISO, not a good combination. I shall report back after the gig if anyone is interested.

The Sony RX100V has better low light performance as you'd expect, however, unless you are near the stage, you are going to be stuck with incredibly wide shots, the 24 - 70mm zoom just doesn't cut it. If I could combine the zoom range of the Canon SX730HS with the low light performance of the Sony RX100V, it would be almost perfect, in terms of point and shoot cameras, still not close to the performance of a budget DSLR in my opinion, despite the Sony's $1,000 price tag.

I know I'm late & you already purchased the Sony. But I'm wondering, did you looked into the Canon G7 X mark ii at the time? It's not 4k, just 1080 and for half the price of the Sony. Also, it has good low light performance, more zoom, and better EIS. If you did, was there any reason you bypassed it?
