Beautiful shot. Should be a great lens. I'm not a prime lens guy but if I were, the 85 would be one i'd look at for sure.

Thanks Darrell. I'm going to be doing some portrait work here in the near future for several people and have read many good things about this affordable lens. I've had it for a day or so and am pretty happy with it thus far.

Studio portrait work or outdoor natural portraits? Have you started with acquiring any studio lighting? I just make do with one 36" softbox, one 36" shoot through umbrella, a reflector and 2 flashes. The whole setup works pretty good actually and is portable.

It will be outside for the most part but I do have a job for some hair salon girls to take headshots and they will post to their website. I don't have any lighting and they understand this. I'm doing the first one for free and for the experience. The outside shots won't be. I was fortunate to have a calendar company contact me and they are going to use 6 of my images for the new year as well. I really don't have the funds for the lighting.

Sounds to me that you are definitely on the right track bud. Your pictures speak for themselves so all you need now is a little marketing and you'll be set. Best of luck.

Darrell are you happy with your 16-35L lens? I'm thinking this is my next purchase as I love to shoot landscapes. The 17-40 is much cheaper and I'm wondering which way I should lean?

I owned the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS and, while I had it it was my most used lens. Highly recommend it. Only reason I sold it was because I’ve since switched to all native lenses for my Sony a7R II.
