Thanks Eddie, I’m torn at the moment on the Riii. I’m waiting to see real life examples of the AF as its about the tracking is the only bit of my 5d3 that I miss. At the moment I’m between either upgrading to the Riii or going all out on Sony and swapping my Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 Sport for the 100-400GM and seeing how that goes. I was a bit disappointed that even with the MC11 the Eye AF and Lock-on Focus modes were ghosted out.

Stunning shots Charlie, I wish I’d had the app during my holidays this year.

works well, love using the app, I dont have anything that filters 12mm, so I'm limited to SR or stopping down if shooting that FL.

Both great Charlie but especially like the first

Stunning shots Charlie, I wish I’d had the app during my holidays this year.

thanks, the apps has some quirks
Cons:

it cant align, so a shaky tripod/minor adjust between shots/wind = ruined
slow to start
separate quality menu, need to set to Raw for the first time, or you end up with JPEG
wears your shutter faster than normal.
only one type of look, very long exposures.
trailing lights may not work well or at all

Pros:
Want to see what ISO 25 would look like? ultra clean shadows, which can recover a bit more than the norm.
No single shot can touch the DR.
No hot pixels from bulb exposures
Exposure is easy, no calculations
Bail out early. If you dont have time to wait/change your mind, turn off the camera and it records at its current spot. AWESOME. I typically leave the camera at the most exposures and simply end early if I think my exposure is long enough. No need to calculate a value, shoot as I please.
No color casts issues or if you use weaker filters, then minimal.

the price is well well worth it if you like to do tripod shots. My 16 stop firecrest filter is not easy to use, extremely dark, so focus needs to be acquired beforehand, and generally just a PITA. SR effectively replaced that filter.

Picked up the Sigma 135 Art 1.8 today and I had a bit of anopportuity to test it outthis afternoon. I already had the Zeiss APO Sonnar 135 which is easily one of my sharpest and favourite lens but I was also looking for an autofocus solution in this focal range and the Sigma was an obvious choice. I'm currently using it with the Metabone iV adapter. The lens is very large and quite heavy, a bit larger than the APO and it feels a bit heavier but I can't be sure without checking the specs. The lens itself is very well built, not quite o the Zeiss standard but nevertheless it feels like a quality lens in the hand, I'm pretty happy with the build of this thing. Focus with the Metabones is actually pretty good, not quite native speed but more than adequate for my needs.

IQ is everything that I expected and had read about on various review sites, this thing is as sharp as the APO and I expect will have no problem shooting this wide open. It seems a bit less contrasty than the APO and the colours are a little warmer aswell but the bokeh is really impressive and very pleasing to my eye. There is a very small amount of CA when shot wide open but you really need to look for it to find it. Overall very impressed with this Sigma lens.

here is a shot of my Old Nikno F2 shoot wide open, ISO was pretty high due to thetime of day so the image maybe a little grainier than I would prefer.

Sold my 70-300..... dropped it off at UPS on Sat morning took a pic of the box and tracking and then got notified by the purchaser last night that only the label was created no updates

Store says "it happens just wait and file a claim"

OMG so pissed. I know how this is going to go UPS will tell me "since we didnt pick it up there is no insurance to pay out"...... So then I will have to take the franchise to small claims.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

it actually does work with light trails...it just needs to be pretty dark, and you need to shoot a base exposure of a few seconds...then it just blends them all in...this is an almost unedited small export of a file in the to do list...SR app, 6 second base and 16 of them IIRC...one thing I wish SR would build into the EXIF is the number of frames it shot...

hope you insured at least the selling price.

you should get your money back with a claim, I've had to do it before and was paid in full. A real hassle though.

I finally got to try out my new toy (a9) on some sports. I've go to say that I am dang impressed. Focus just tracks amazingly. I started the day shooting with my buddy's 70-200 f4, then at lunch time he decided to take my advice and purchase the f2.8 version. So I got to shoot the 2nd game with that beautiful piece of glass. (now I REALLY want it)

Nice work! For indoor sports, you'd want the f2.8 version either way :-)
