I just made the move to all arca and am buying extra plates to leave on my cameras.

In case anyone happens to know... RRS used to make a plate specifically for the Canon 70D, model B70D. It seems to have been discontinued. Anyone have any idea if the new model for the 80D would work on the 70D. The style looks different enough that I am afraid it might not, though it seems it still works with the BG‑E14 grip so maybe?

My wife is using my 70D but she hates grips so I have a Canon BG-E14 grip and the Kirk one piece L bracket sitting around.

Well they heard you! My BH-55 weighs 1.96lbs and the current version (with the new logo) weighs 1.6lbs.

I haven't been keeping track of what RRS has been doing with the BH-55. Hmmm mine weighs 1.6 pounds too... but without the clamps; 1.96 with the lever clamp.

Yeah, I have a Canon BG-E14 grip and a Kirk plate for it (not the bracket) but, like your wife, not a huge fan of using the grip so much. Was going to either pick up a Kirk or RRS plate just for the body. I got a response from RSS since posting this and they said the 80D plate is not recommended for the 70D. So that is that.

I'm sure I have just the plate around too.... the sort of curved plate for bottom of the grip. I have two of them floating around and I'm not sure which camera they are for. If you're interested, I'll check to see.

Markins M20 with LR ; 555g,
RRS BH-55 with LR : 890g

RRS is 60% heavier, so no evident visit to the fat farm. FWIW, I do love my RRS BH-40.

Appreciate the offer... I am going to try to pick up an RRS B70D on the used market, else just grab a Kirk PZ-157. If you have one of those and want to get rid of it, shoot me a PM!

I just checked.... I thought I had two plates... but I can only find one at the moment: the Kirk PZ-154. It just the camera plate (not the L bracket) for the 70D, 80D and 6D when a grip is used.

Guess that isn't what you need.

I just read the spec from their web page without noticing it was without the clamp. Sorry for the misleading info. I had read a comment on another forum from a knowledgeable RRS customer that they had "improved" the BH-55 and jumped to the conclusion that they had slimmed it down. It has not gone to the fat farm - still 1.96lbs. But still a very good ballhead.

I miss the old RRS logo.

So do I. The new logo looks like a couple of hex keys with a loose screw in the middle.

Yeah, the new logo is lame. Back when they went through the process of developing it they sent out an email giving the back-story of the original logo and how it came to be. When they asked people to vote on the new designs I wrote to let them know I was voting to keep the original and to ask why they would replace a logo with an actual story behind it with some soulless corporate design with no history? Change for the sake of change. Not quite as dumb as Gura Gear deciding to become Tamrac, but silly all the same.

Logos have become all the same,
It used to be all car makes had their own logo, now they are almost all a squiggle or letter inside some form of ellipse. Period.

Only a small handful maintain there own unique design. It makes even all of Ivan Chermayeff's and Saul Bass designs look original.

I much preferred the Yin Yang design RRS used to use. I even voted to leave it the same..... oh, well. The only constant in life is change.
