Heres one of the shots from last night. Unbelieveable sight to see

Just looked at this on a bigger screen and decided that it’s worthy of further comment. I love the colours and the way that the mountains and clouds as well as the aurora are reflected in the glass like lake. Beautiful sky above the aurora also. First class

Thanks for the comments Chris, it def looks better on the bigger Flickr version. I wish I could have panned left a bit for the shot but there was a massive floodlight lighting up the shore further alone and it was really distracting

Here's where I live in relation to LAX Charlie. I'm 80 miles east and 14 miles south of that point.

I fly into LAX next week...will drive out to JTNP...cool to see the map...a few POTN folks out that way.

isnt MW season over? Tons of good shooting in LA if you dont need to go inland. Let me know if you will stay in LA, I can point out many spots depending on your stay. Right by LAX at the in and out.... you gotta try their burgers anyhow, terrific plane spotting area, fortunately, the terminal just opened again, so sunset/sunrise + plane could happen. The experience is awesome too, SOOOOO close, my kids loved it.

MW season is over, but we want to do some astro anyway, doesnt always have to be MW. And I wanted to go back and explore JTNP, was kinda hoping for a bit of snow too, but that doesnt seem likely now.

believe it or not, never been to joshua tree myself , I figure if I'm going to drive to an epic location..... EL matador keeps popping in my head. Insanely good, and for astro work, the caves can bring out a different dimension. Of course, I'm highly beach biased

if you're going to JT, consider visiting corona del mar tidepools, very nice during sunset, then head to JT after, might as well kill two birds.

I get in after sunset on Thursday, and then we have a house just outside JTNP to get to...figuring LA traffic, the 120 miles should take 4 hours ...we will likely find a place to shoot astro that night, and then get back in...I plan to find spots for sunrise too...

I can't believe you live near LA and have not been to JTNP...I have said it before, if I lived near stuff like that or Yosemite...my wife would hate it...I would ALWAYS be making the jaunt to go there...

Would love to hear how you feel it performs comparing the A7RII+FE90 and A9+FE90 in the same low light conditions. This could end up with me wanting an a9 even more than I already do

hey Eddie...I don't want to cause you a flare up...but the a9 and the FE90 Macro...snappy fast focus...exposure settings would have been ISO 1000, f/2.8 and 1/20...so sufficiently not good light!

but interestingly enough...I tried the 7r2, same places around the room, and while it was not snappy fast, it still found focus relatively easy, and only once hunted at all...but he a9 was clearly faster.

I have the FE 90 on loan for the weekend...going out to Old Car City...

Hey Gene, its a couple of my best friends...one I have known since high school, the other since freshman year in college...we do little guys trips when we can, and it had been 2 years...if you wanted to make the trek out, I am sure that no one would object. Its not a workshop...this year...but next year, I intend to make it one. Part of the reason for the trip.

From LAX to my place is 102 miles if you take CA-91 East and 104 miles on CA-60 East. Right now (3:45 pm) with traffic, it says 3h 17min if you take 91E.

lol, this is why I tend to shoot local

I dont feel like I lack amazing places, I just lack time to shoot without kids kicking my tripod legs or touching my lens elements
