Basically the 5dmk4 is $1000 (living and buying in Canada)more than if a US person buys it for 3500USD in the US....Man that's steep.

Looks like I'm buying another 5d3 and fuji X-T2(or 80D for vid application)

I know several folks have used their vacation trip or a business trip to the US, taken their camera gear with them, and when they go back home, mysteriously, there is another camera in the bag. They just ship the empty box and accessories out of the US to home.

Good evening

Here's a few images I took with my 5D Mrk II. The first one was shot in June this year.

I'm a long-term 5DII user as well. Have used it for most of my professional work and it still does everything that I need a camera for. As it's aging I know I'll eventually have to replace it, and the 5DS looks like a good candidate, but I'm worried about the very high resolution maximising every tiny motion blur that might happen.

I don't find anything in the Mk IV version that really entices me, even less run out to buy one (assuming I had the funds, which at the time I don't). Super high ISO? Meh: I strive to shoot always at base ISO (100) and barely ever go above 800 (definitely not above that for professional work). 4K video? Meh^2: I'm a still shooter: I have neither the interest nor the skill nor the wherewithal to be doing motion. Last but not least, the built-in Wi-Fi and the stupid geolocation tagging are deal breakers: last thing I want is a connected/cloud-y camera.

Sadly if I was in the US buying a camera it's 4500cdn after conversion :(

About a year ago ALOT of US folks bought gear from Canada because Canon "canada" didn't change the price structure after the toilet dollar took a dive. There was a massive price increase in Feb 2016. Before February the canadian prices were lower the US!!!! that's huge savings for US folks.

$4500 cdn is spendy for a 5dmk4!!

Yup. However, I agree with Canon's decision: it just wasn't fair to US dealers.

Maybe you should just wait for a year or two for the price to go down and the issues fixed with firmware

After seeing the videos that Canon USA put out this morning, I think I will have a lot of practicing to do, learning curve is very high for the new technologies in the 5D4. I will most likely do a couple of tutorial, take notes, take more notes and then go out and really shoot. I don't think it will be awful in some ways since I have a 7D2, but I don't do much with the 5D2 other than shooting in M mode and getting the best I can as a math teacher doing an equation in my head of what the settings should be for the conditions. Now I have to work out an equation and add a few derivatives and integrals and inequalities to get the picture I want. Time to upgrade my brain, I guess.

Considering the cost of living and income earning in US or Canada the $1000 extra ($4500cdn) vs a US person buying the same camera for $3500USD in the US seems "unfair".

I think more hobbyists will be on the pre purchase list for a 5dmk4 vs Professionals. The 5d2, 5d3 full frames work well as a tool for photography. Clearly "new gear" is better in most cases but not always imperative for a Pro's bottom line $$$.

What beautiful pictures you took with Mark II!
I also used 5D MK II for a very long time and finally decided to sell my 7D and 5D MK II to get 7D MKII and another full-frame.
I have been debating between 5DSR and 5D MK IV and with the advice from the fellow photographers on this forum just made a decision to buy 5DSR today!

I also used my 5D MK II mainly for landscape and had no complaints on the image quality it produced.
Only complaints I had was AF was slow especially in low light and I remember the AF hesitating many times and frustrating me. Of course if you are doing the landscape mainly that might not be such a big issue but I felt it was time for me to upgrade to newer technologies and I have always been curious about 50 MP!

just was excited that someone was thinking about the same thing and thought I'd drop in.
Hope you'll like whatever you decide to get!

Sorry, I guess I missed your reply.

and one year later...I am STILL with the 5D Mrk II. :)

However, I started photographing wildlife+birds after a trip to Alberta last September. And after the trip, I got a 7D Mrk II + 400mm f/5.6.

Now, I am on a mission to the 600mm f/4 :)

after getting the 7D, I started to notice how the 5D has aged...still, I am trying to make the best of it in the meantime.

I also still shoot with a 5d2, mostly landscapes, portraits and travel so it's usually enough for me. I find the image quality to be really good and I almost prefer the simplicity of it.

I also added a 7d2 and yes the autofocus is so much more advanced ( better ). I only really use the 24L or 100-400 on my 7d2 but the 7d2 is lot of bang for the buck. I find the 2 make a good combo.

I think what I am missing mostly on my "animal camera combo" (7Dmk2+400mm f/5.6) is a the IS. When I have a situation where the subject is not too far, I put my 70-200 f/4 IS and it is pure joy. :)

When I got the combo, I was divided between the 100-400 and the 400...I love the lens. don't get me wrong. It is razor sharp. But the lack of IS frustrates sometimes.

I had the 400 and 70-300L before going to the 100-400ii. I like the versatility and is but the 400 was a joy to shoot with and really performed well with moving subjects. I know it’s not much lighter but it certainly feels lighter and the hood is awesome.

As much as I like the 100-400 I sorta miss my old combo. The 70-300L was really compact and fun to shoot with. I actually took that lens to Disney. I would never take the 100-400. oh well I guess the grass is always greener.

They are all good so you really can’t loose and the 5d2 is a classic.
