Cooper's Hawk and Immature Cooper's Hawk

These were both digiscoped through a spotting scope

They look very good to me. Do you mind mentioning what gear you used? I have been interested in digiscoping for some time now.

As I was preparing to shoot, he actually moved closer to me, filled the viewfinder.

This is a Water Rail, it is a very secretive bird. You tend to see them dash from one bunch of reeds to another. There were 3 in the same area today. but hardly showing in full.....Patience paid off, sooner or later I new one would show himself.

The Cooper's Hawk photos were taken with a home made adapter (turned on a lathe), Nikon ED82 Spotting Scope with DS 16/24/30 Eyepiece, and Canon S70 and S90 cameras.

These pics show the setup on an ED50 Scope, which works OK at closer/brighter conditions. The 82 mm scope performs quite well.
With this set up one must first focus the scope then mount the camera. Use a middle, near normal, position with the zoom. Keep the aperture wide open, or nearly so, and let the camera auto focus. It helps to be quick and you'll miss a lot of images but one gets pretty fast after some practice.

I don't know what that bird is or what it's eating but OMG... Look at the size of that bug..."

It's a Noisy Friarbird and the bug is a Cicada. It took it to the nest to feed it's young.

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.
