From my searches this morning, the mask mode probably wouldn't work with the method you and I use to extract subjects. It fires groups sequentially.

Whereas we would need A and B (A=subject, B=background) fired for the first shot and A only for the second.

Do I remember correctly that you are using something other than photoshop?

I use Gimp, but any app with real layer ops can serve, including that Gimp clone called Photoshop. :) The black-drape trick is very effective—alone or in combination with extinguishing the b/g light. Sequential firing is fine, and exactly the same as MultiMAX SpeedCycle. If the b/g is captured in its own frame, that becomes the alpha channel after suitable curves work. I use either approach.

Any Softbox recommendations?
Anything special i need to look for to work with the Flashpoint 600 w/ Bowens Mount?

Ive never bought or really used softboxes so this will be a first for me.

Try to find a S mount speedring with the flattest profile possible. This applies to all Chinese brands using the S mount, as all of them position the flash tube much closer to the mount than Bowens used to do. Bowens' own legacy speedrings are quite deep and that can in practice make the flash tube recessed.

For products, that's just me, but I'd try to find softboxes with a rather dense diffusion material to get a reasonably even illumination, which may matter when the object is quite shiny. No need for the softbox to be a Broncolor one, I'm pretty certain that there are other manufacturers which softboxes are designed to provide an even illumination.

Finally I'd try to find softboxes made with materials that won't affect the colour temperature of the lights too much. Some of them use optical brighteners in the white diffusers, for example, which can shift colour temperature in various, unexpected ways.

Edward Tang, Cheetah Stand has a low profile speedring adapter he had designed for the 600. He now has versions that fit all his modifiers. His quick series are very good and not expensive. What I like about then is that he has available a deflection plate that eliminates the hot spot in the center of a softbox with the tube aimed straight that the diffusion fabric.

I also find Savage Translum excellent and inexpensive for difusion (single, double, triple...) and enables feathering a strobe’s light onto the Translum. Cheapest 10x10 window light you can get. $50. Cut it to fit any need. Reuse it. I rollup and store cut pieces inside the tube it came with.

Those redwing booms are good. Totally forgot when I bought the regular mathews boom. Maybe next time if & when we get bigger studio at work.
