Controls. If you are used to one type, buy that body. I prefer the body with a top-deck LCD and rear control dial. The 80D has them, the 800D does not. The more you change setting, the more you'll like the 80D-style body.

I have never used anyone of them. But I would guess I would prefer the 80D more. I do change settings quite a lot.
But it is almost double the price...

Have you looked at the Canon refurbished cameras? If you are in the States, that is.

Thanks TeamSpeed! Which one would you choose? and why?

I have looked at refurbished and unfortunately it's not an option for me! :(

80D, just due to size and build quality, personally. The only rebels I buy are the very, very small ones like the SL2, for travel purposes.

80D has a higher flash sync speed, more fps, faster shutter speed (1/8000), and a handful of other small items.

Karl,

A few years ago and several Canon models ago, I had the same choice. I ended up going with the 60D instead of one of the Rebels (XXD instead of XXXD). It ended up being a good decision for me. The XXD cameras are easier to use, have a top shutter speed at 1/8000 instead of 1/4000, though I haven't looked at the specs for the 800D, so that could have changed.

All in all, a better camera that will let you grow into it. Add to that, the 80D has been getting very good press on POTN for the quality of its sensor. It has been well received in the review sites as well.

If you discount the drive speed of the 7DII, the 80D is the best aps-c camera Canon has ever made. The 18-135 USM lens is far and away the best ef-s lens Canon has ever made. Nano-USM is extremely good. It wouldn't surprise me if Canon moved all of its AF to this style of drive. In true Canon tradition, nano-USM works on all EOS bodies. Well, it works on my old Elan 7Ne film body.
