Pure bokeh. I had to cover the men's & women's basketball games at our local college. There were about 30 minutes between games, so I walked outside for some fresh air. That's when I noticed the lights and went back for my camera to play around a little.

It's a thing of beauty ... a really smooth soft background.

... but is it 'bokeh' or is it 'blur'? ...

Edit: Terrific photograph btw!

David.

Thanks. I searched the web for a definition of the term Bokeh and can be.
"So, what is a good or beautiful bokeh? A good bokeh pleases our eyes and our perception of the image and therefore, the background blur should appear soft and “creamy”

The trouble is, if you keep on searching, you will find other ... much narrower ... definitions. Mostly, these focus on the rendering of out-of-focus highlights.

For myself, I'm not really so much interested in those artifacts and more interested in the overall quality of the background and how well it allows the subject to be separated. Your image is first class in that respect. But I know there are others whose response will be 'Bokeh ... what bokeh?'.

Yes your quite right, I was just pointing out Bokeh can just be a blur. I also love the isolated look, as my image.
