Who won the stare down?

The deer. There is no way this guy could take on the herd on his own. The coyotes at Pt. Reyes seem to be solitary and tend to stick to voles and such as their primary source of food. He was probably thinking “if only...” :-)

Not fair, you had a bigger target than normal with the Super Moon. :-)

On a serious note, how do you go about setting up for, or knowing that this show would happen?

A Yellow Bellied Sapsucker, a very rare visitor to Western Oregon. Photographed at Commonwealth Lake in Beaverton, Oregon.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

My son and I were birding in a local park (Commonwealth Lake Park). We noticed that all the ducks were skittish and then we saw this guy chilling and trying to decide which one he's going to have for lunch. :D

Astro is not usually my thing, but the night sky viewing in Telluride CO was to good to pass up giving it a go.

Noise wears me out
Is there any way to get better pics without buying a 1dx or 1dxII?

I use Neat Image, above ISO 1600, as a stand alone, between DPP and Elements. I have been impressed by their version 8. $40, way less than a 1dx.

A review: https://digital-photography-school.com/neat-image-8-noise-reduction/ (external link)

YMMV

Cold with flurries this morning in Northwest Ohio. The feeling in my fingers lasted just long enough to snap a few shots of this buck.
