PCousins Senior Member ![]() More info       | Dec 09, 2017 22:07 | #12536 The weather forecast was for snow today which I was expecting as I could see on several cars 5-6 inches in some cases. I arrived at the pond where I usually see Kingfishers. The female was there I often see. I waited and I knew it would be just a matter of time before it turned up on it's favourite branches. I got my photo's and moved on but as I left it got me thinking how it would feed as the pond it feeds from was completely frozen over. The snow never came but is expected tomorrow. I'm concerned and in two minds that I should go back and try and break the ice up but I know it won't be easy with the size and depth of the pond.

Indeed it is, but it's not a wild one - its wings have been clipped! Canon 7D2 · 50 f/1.8 · 17-55 f/2.8 IS · 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM · 100 f/2.8 Macro · 100-400 L IS II

Yes, sadly a lot of Kingfishers do starve when water freezes over. Herons can suffer too. Canon 7D2 · 50 f/1.8 · 17-55 f/2.8 IS · 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM · 100 f/2.8 Macro · 100-400 L IS II
