I've shot arena soccer in the same location several times with my 70-200 and it was just about perfect. Having been to a few basketball games now, it seems like the kids are bunched up more than they were in soccer. I'm planning to be on the floor at one of the corners but now I'm thinking the 70-200 might be too long and that the 24-70 might be better when they're all crowded under the basket. Any thoughts from anyone who's shot this age range?

Full frame or crop? I use 70-200 all the time on a full-frame under the basket. If I had a crop, I'd probably use the 24-70 more, though I'd still use the 70-200 quite often

Try both, chimp, shoot more of the second half with your favorite. I'd probably go with the 70-200 for most of the time. I like tight shots. 6-7 is more about emotion and less about physical skills.

I was baseline, next to basket for these. Pretty sure all of these were shot with the 70-200, on a crop sensor. And yes, that's W watching from the from row.

How is the light and do you have the f2.8 or f4 version of the 70-200?

70-200 f2.8 for me. I also shot the 135 on the 6D and a 85 on the 7D2, both at 2.8.

I have the 2.8 II. They play in 3 different gyms. The light in one -- where I shot the arena soccer last year -- is terrible. I was at f/2.8 and ISO 12,800-16,000 to get 1/500, depending on whether any lights were out and if any natural light was making its way through the little windows. Thankfully the light in the other two are better so I'll probably shoot there. I did a test shot in one gym with my phone and it's almost 2 stops brighter than the 1st gym.
