I'm not a food photographer so I can't talk to the specifics, but each of the image is missing some Sizzle that seems to be a universal element in appealing food photographs.

I like the compositions, overall technical quality. Its just the missing "something" that keeps me from saying WOW.

I know you are doing it for a particular style/effect but I still find all the out of focus stuff at the front of the images very distracting. That, for me, is the thing stopping me going Wow. The rest of the image(s) is great.

Thanks for the feedback Dan, yeah this was at the request of the client.

I agree with Dan about the foregrounds. No idea why a client would ask for that arrangement. It might backfire by suggesting to viewers that the place is tiny and cramped.

I actually liked them, it gives a sense of depth to the place. The restaurant is called Park and its a really beautiful. The goal was to show a bit more of the space.

The repetition of the shots all being shot the same way is a bit bothersome for me. I feel like the sandwich and the burger shot work the best in this set.

The lighting and mood are fantastic. The styling is consistent but I have to agree there is something lacking, or rather too much of... space around the food. I took all your shots and cropped in tight on the food a saw a major improvement to every image. They instantly had that 'sizzle' others mentioned was lacking. The only issue was the focus was just a little off on some of them for those tight compositions. Deeper depth of focus would be needed to really make them say, "wow."

Otherwise, I like them.

I always leave room for cropping. Never know what the end use will be for the pics. Didn't have time to move around also. Shot around 20 food images in four hours. Had to have the remaining time left to shoot interiors and exteriors.

Look forward to your work in the future with regards to the "critics" which at first I thought were "picky" but as I studied looking for what these guys were saying I came around in my own learning from what they were saying---and I do want to see your work in the future love this site for threads just like this JD
