Hi all,

Here are some shots of the glow worms at Natural Bridge in Springbrook National Park. These glow worms are actually larvae of a fungus gnat (Arachnocampa flava), and they produce light to attract their insect prey. Each glow worm surrounds itself with a series of "snares" that hang from the ceiling, each of which is covered with droplets of sticky mucus that traps the insect prey. The first image, taken in the late evening, shows the view looking out of the cave with the waterfall on the left and a few glow worms in the cave ceiling. The second shows a group of glow worms near the back of the cave, and the last one is a close up view of a single glow worm surrounded by snares (taken with my macro lens).

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks for the explanation. Stunning work. I've never seen this beautiful glow worm photography. Very cool.

Boy I really miss the sound of a calling Kookaburra (and Australia in general). My daughter (who just turned 3,and turned 2 last year in Australia) still keeps asking about YouTube clips with the sound of a Kookaburra calling. :-)
Great memories.

Australian life...cyclists seem to get some respect from people in motor vehicles.

Brush turkey- very colorful!
So many animals are different and unique compared to those in other parts of the world.
