I guess my switching went from M42 thread (Pentax and many others) to Exacta mount (Topcon) to FD mount to EF mount.

Never switched. Canon's lens quality and lineup is too fantastic. I can tolerate Canon being behind in sensor tech, dynamic range, etc. in their cameras. But I haven't found a brand yet which can compete across the board with Canon's lens quality. Every other system I've tried has weak points at specific focal ranges when compared to the canon alternative when it comes to my needs.

Canon 700D--->> Nikon 5300D. I know both are entry level camera. My next target is Canon 5D. But it will take time to have that one, because I need to learn a lot.

What made you switch away from Canon and back?

None so far. I thought about switching to Sony A7RIII or maybe A7III but I haven't. It alot of hassle with very little gain. I shoot primarily wedding so I don't know if adapted lens will works well in dark environment. Native Sony lens are very expensive.

EVF and Eye AF are very cool features but it's not a must have when my Canon 5D IV has perform admirably for everything I do. Also, the 42mpx is way too big for weddings when I have to shoot 6000 images. ISO/DR between Canon and Sony is pretty insignificant.

Workflow, cost & hassle of switching system for insignificant gain is my hold up for switching. I rather use that time on photography education or business.

Canon 5D IV. 24- 70 2.8 II, 70-200 2.8 IS II, Sigma 135 1.8 Art, Sigma 85 1.4 Art, Tamron 15-30 2.8 VC, Tamron 90 2.8 VC

As a kid I had a Mamiya Sekor 500 DTL, after that, various models of MF Rolleiflex and 35mm Nikon film/digital and the wonderful 35mm Rolleiflex 3003.

Still have them all.

I do envy those 35mm Canon lenses but won’t switch. Maybe Nikon will do better someday...

Medium format has so much goodness though. Kinda beats 35mm except my 12 shots per roll MF won’t do 13fps. I just shoot right with the first frame..;-)a

If the Kodak cameras of the 60's and 70's count, then I switched once. I've been shooting with Canon since the early 80's when I bought an AE-1. Today I shoot with Canon and also Sony, but I've never fully switched to Sony, it's simply another great camera which I use often.

I like this thread. My wallet doesn’t, though it’s usually adequately stuffed enough to the point that I sprained my ankle when I fell off it. -;)

I started way back when with a then new Canon AE1. You remember film? I sucked big time. Backlighting got me 80 percent of the time leaving me with silhouettes.

Man, oh man, digital was a panacea for me. Got the Nikon D10 and a few nice lenses. Then the Canon 20D. Then the 1D. Short while later I went back to the dark side, to the D3. Then Canon got better so I switched back to the 1D2. Progressed through every new 1 Series as soon as they came out.

Now that I’m an old gray haired fart, I figured the 1 Series too heavy.

I’m now the proud owner of the A7R3 and a few lenses. Yes, I miss the ease of controls and menus of Canon and Nikon. Yes, I’m lusting after the D850. But the eye focus, the EVF, the small size of the Sony is keeping a hold on me at least for now.

Who knows what next week holds.

I'd like to switch to top of the range medium format but no way could I ever afford it

Minolta - Olympus - Canon - Olympus

Waiting for Canon to come up with a full frame mirror-less but until then...

Big dreams, small wallet.
