Nova Scotia! How cold was it? my local weather today is 15 degrees and cannot find a bird may be the sudden cold snap has but them to roost? been watching a spot on the river as I keep seeing juvies there but cannot figure out why they keep showing on a sand spit .......JD

It was pretty chilly when I took this one, maybe -10C or so. As you can see most of the salt water bay was frozen over.

Speaking of the light, one thing that really helps an image like this is the fact that the snow/ice reflects so much light up onto the eagle. . This is why there aren't hard shadows on the underside of the bird. . This makes a HUGE difference when it comes to evening out the light on the subject.
