SPEKULAR - new LED lighting system - anyone think it's awful/ok/good/wow?

Joe Edelman has been strongly touting these LED lights as a cheaper alternative to regular strobes.
I suppose there is a place for everything: new technologies, new ideas and innovative ways in using them.

Spekular specs (it's a modular lighting system):
1 kit contains 4 light sections
1 light section = 14.5 watts (1,500 lumens) - equivalent to 150 watt bulb per section (and weighs in at 335 grams)
4 light sections = 58 watts (6,000 lumens) - equivalent to 600 watt bulb in total
No flicker
Daylight balanced to 5,600 Kelvin
CRI Averaging 94+ (Although the Blue Colour Channel is measuring circa.73)
Dimmable from 100% down to 10%
120 degree beam angle
Dimensions: 1.5" / 4cm square x 12" / 30cm long

This kit is NOT cheap - costs $650.00 for the Core Kit!

I'd put them on the awful/OK end of the spectrum. There's a reason you're not seeing them used for full-length, or mixed with ambient - they're way underpowered.

And on a minor note: I think the names, both Spekular and SpiffyGear - are terrible :/
