Bosque del Apache Wildlife Management Refuge. Tight crop and used a 1.4x teleconverter. Didn't really think it would turn out this well when I looked at the back of the camera.

Excellent. Breaks the rule about not shooting a bird in the back, but works very well in this case.

No worries, there aren't actually any rules in photography.

But most of the time, birds don't look their best when shot from behind. At least, that's what Artie Morris says, and I think it makes sense.

There's a rule that states "there's a exception to every rule ",,,so your covered here ! Unless you believe that the exception to every rule rule applies to " there's an exception to every rule " in which case your not covered because of that exception. I recommend you don't over think it !

I think I thought I thunk,,just before I made a stunk !

I’m sure some will take exception to that exception lol.. I always figured rules were made to be broken even when your not breaking any. Its all art

One of my favorite POTN photographs is one where the Great White Egret (or Heron.. it isn't easy for me to tell them apart) was in the process of landing and all its back feather were ruffled in the wind from the flaps down breeze. http://photography-on-the.net …hp?t=1268641&highlight=AZ

I've managed something close to it but am still waiting for that absolutely perfect shot. I should get another crack at it this spring.

Anyway, I loved your photograph: light through wings... beautiful.
