My 2 year old, almost 3 year old broke my 55" 4k smart tv tonight by repeatedly hitting it with some pool toy. My wife and I were busy cleaning things in the kitchen as the 17 y.o. and 10 y.o. just yelled at him to stop hitting the tv. Question is, whose fault is it?

Parents for buying the tv last year?
Small child for beating the tv?
2 other children who witness said abuse and did nothing but issue verbal directives that failed?

I'm perplexed.

Ouch!

A toddler doesn't have a whole lot of reasoning, cause/effect skills yet. But should be able to listen to instructions. But instructions from siblings are usually not seen as "important".

The older kids however, are a different story. I'm guessing that the 17 y.o. is well into the "I am my own person, I don't need my parent's input" stage of life. If they want to be allowed freedoms, they need to show themselves as responsible. Prime opportunity to do so was just presented....

Yeah, he was threatened with a spanking as my wife had to tell him several times to stop hitting the already broken tv. The 2 other kids went up stairs feeling the wrath of dad. But I stayed cool. Not much I could do but remind them they have to help out and at least get up and take the striking device away from the wee one. Sometimes you have to take 5 minutes to compose yourself before engaging.

Chet,

I feel for you man... We just bought a new 55 inch 4K TV 2 months ago.

We have a 4 and 5+ year old grandsons my wife babysits everyday here in our home. So far they have not hurt our TV, but the youngest many times wants to touch the TV with his fingers. We tell him not to touch... I think he is getting better at not touching the screen.

1:20 am. I had just gotten into bed, was turning my phone to night mode, when the boss called. Time to head back to work again. He neglected to send out the heads up text earlier in the evening.

A 6 hour shift (plus commuting time) on 4 hours sleep just isn’t fun.

Sounds like all the other plow people I know. Many do 14, 16+ hour shifts when lots of snow comes down all day and they have to keep replowing there contract locations.

Yeah, that hasn’t happened here yet. If I had known that it was snowing in town, I would have gone to bed hours earlier.

The joystick.
Buttons 5 and 7 are transmission control - 5 shifts up, 7 shifts down (1-4), auto clutch.
The other buttons control other hydraulic circuits that aren't used on the plow. I do wish the wing controls were on the joystick instead of on the console.
The part I'm holding back with my finger is the lockout. If it's not open, with the green light on, the joystick will be shutoff. Protects against accidental movements.

Tough break. It appears he was trying to carry out a hit on Bill Shatner. Many would reward him for that. I don't have kids, so I rely on a line my mother used often. "This is why we can't have nice things."

I feel for you, man.
