Nice and clear, looks like you are ready for the eclipse later this week.

It's been windy today but has calmed down a bit this evening. I wanted to get my camera and lens setup for the upcoming eclipse so I took this test shot. At least the air was clear.

I went outside in the evening yesterday and say the moon was out and thought I'd take a picture to test my settings for the upcoming Full-Moon/Blue-Moon/Super-Moon/Blood-Moon. I've been closely watching the weather for almost daily for the last two months. In the last week I've been watching the predictions for weather every few hours in case there's a nearby city I can get to that has less cloud than my own. I think it's going to be VERY cloudy here in Sydney, Australia... so I might need to drive for 5 hours to get to a spot near Canberra that will offer me clearer skies. Taken with the Canon EOS M6 + Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM II lens + Canon EF 2x III Extender.

This was the last Blood Moon that I photographed back in 2014. I drove several hours through the rain to get to the mountains to capture this picture. When I arrived, I saw the moon was exposed so I got out of the car and took just one quick test photograph (see pic) in case the clouds moved in. I didn't even get to change any settings on my camera to try for different exposures. The gap in the clouds was just 12 seconds long... and then the moon was covered by cloud again and the rain commenced. I drove home shortly afterwards. Taken with the original Canon EOSM + Canon EF 135mm f/2L STM lens. I'm pretty frustrated at how the weather experts here have been predicting rain and cloud (again) just on this day... because this event ought to be a little more interesting than the last few. The same thing happened for the last two Comets in the sky as well as the last we major meteorite showers. So frustrating.

Here’s my attempt. I may try my 55-250 stm just for that extra reach

Taken just after sunset - during the so-called "Blue Hour" period. Shot from my front lawn. I bought the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM II lens especially to fill in until I get around to purchasing a more serious and dedicated Telescope - it's better than the spotting scope I was using. I think this was my first day using the EF 2x III Extender. Mounting both the extender and lens on my older Canon EOSM (APS-C) gave me a total focal length equivalent of 1120mm.

I like this shot... it might be the blue hue of the sky... although it has been cropped. Not bad for a handheld JPEG though. it captured some subtle and interesting textures and details in the lowland lava plains of Mare Imbrium and Montes Apenninus (Apennine Mountains).

nice, been scouting out a location of plane flying through the moon for a while. Should give me more opportunities, but tough to find the exact location.

it's not easy considering the moon and plane both move around ;-)a

A test shot on the night of 30th Jan 2018, I day/night before the total Lunar Eclipse of 31st Jan 2018. From Brisbane, mid-totality is around 11:30pm, but the weather is looking a bit iffy.

Maybe I should just colour this one in with a reddish hue! LOL!

Taken with the Canon 5D Mk III attached to a Celestron C9.25 F10 telescope using a x0.63 Reducer which gives an effective focal length of around 1500mm.

Cheers

Dennis

And voila, this morning's nearly-super blue blood moon.

note: same amount of chromatic boost as previous shot. The actual color was more a brick-red than blood-red.
