Hello Members,

I spotted an Alligator slowly patrolling its way up to a heavily populated Egret/Heron/Ibis marsh.
The Gator propped itself up on the bank and let out the loudest, deepest, ground vibrating bellow.

The beast then proceeded to sink to the bottom and engage stealth-mode.
It crept along the bank looking for unsuspecting victims.
With a huge burst of energy it sprung up out of the water, surprising me and snagging an Egret.
The poor bird was a goner.

Here's a few fumbling, hasty shots, snapped years ago, on a day with a heat index of 114 degrees (F).
Captured Merritt Island, Florida.
Thanks for looking.
Happy trails,
Paul

Merritt Island is one of my favourite spots for bird photography so I try to go there a couple of times each winter when I'm in the south. I've never been lucky enough to see anything like this. Well done to capture the hunt!

Thanks Dan, It really is a wonderful area.
That hunt was captured on Bio-Lab road.
Happy trails,

Those are amazing shots. I've seen lots of gators but never one catching a bird.
