I had a heck of a fun shoot yesterday.....went to the Polo matches. I've never been...this is a rough sport. And the 'rules'...if you will....are.....loose at best. I guess as long as you don't club another guy it's kind of have at it.

Got some good pictures.....some really beautiful horse flesh. The horses are incredible. Some of the turns and maneuvers they can make are just impossible.

Nice series ...
I'm guessing this was Sarasota ... if so, I had to cancel my trip there with my local photo club (F.C.C.P.) but I do plan to get there one Sunday for the great action.

It was at Sarasota. Great time, I'll go again.

I'm surprised there were no responses to this thread....I thought it would get more action.

Oh well.....whatcha gonna do? :-(

I'm a little surprised at so few responses too, but OTOH, I just noticed the thread.
Some skill there to hit the ball with those mallets from the horse. Nicely captured.

Thanks, guys.

This gets me too. I asked some of the more seasoned attendees if you are allowed to hit the ball with the side of the mallet. Apparently you can do almost anything you want as long as you don't crack another player with it.

This is pretty crazy........yellow guy comes back for a crack at the ball and blue guy hooks yellow guy's mallet and blocks his shot. All while cruising along at about 40mph on the back of a horse. You can see their mallets crossed behind yellow guy in picture two.

Thanks, Anita.

I used my Canon 6D with the 100-400 II.

What? A 6D for action shots?! :p I kid!

The second shot also shows those mallet handles bend a lot too. I guess they are bamboo?

Again, captured the action and everything well.

Great set, I used to work as a Polo Groom and the sticks as they are called have just ordinary wood handles it’s the heads and centrifugal force that makes them bend which also takes out some of the shock when hitting the the ball.

I don't know what they're made out of but they do break....as you can see.
