I bought a used 24LII and love the perspective. I sold the 70-200/2.8 replaced it with a 200/2.8II and have no regrets. There are plenty of other lenses in my bag to fill the gap, it’s simply lighter now.

The 24LII is a lot of fun and an outstanding lens for travel or just causal outings. I've had mine for a long time and it remains my favorite general purpose/travel lens.

Just being a bit of a pedant, but the lens doesn't have a perspective. Perspective is all down to the relationships between the camera to subject distance, and the subject to background distance. Or maybe the relative distances to image components, depending on how you want to phrase it.

Alan,

Don't you think that Tony meant, "I really like the perspective that the 24mm allows me to shoot from"? . That's the way I took it when I read his post.

I think we all know that no lens has a perspective, but people just say that as a short way of saying that they like the perspective that they can shoot from with a certain lens.

I think that a lot of times people shorten the things that they say and write, omitting very important phrases, expecting us to "just know" what they really mean. . I don't know how many times someone has said to me, "Know what I mean?" . That drives me crazy because it is improper - they should say, "Do you know what I mean?" instead.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Bought 3 EF lenses in 2017.

Optically strongest to worst 135A, 70-200 VC, 28-75 ;-)a

Favorite to least 28-75, 135A, 70-200 VC

Coincidentally, the lightest was my favorite because of it's size...... ok maybe not coincidence.

I have a hard time loving big lenses, except for my 600 for lunar and some city shots.

Bought a Tamron 45 1.8. Sold my EF 50 1.4.

Then started hiking the mountains this winter and decided I needed a light 50mm, taking the 24-105 for +/- 50mm is too much. So I bought a 50 STM used. Selling the 1.4 probably still worked out for the best. The STM is at least as good as the 24-105 @ f11, better in the corners.

HOW ABOUT IN 2018-?

I bought one lens which I dearly love on my 6D Mark ii: The Canon 35mm f/2 IS lens. It is not only a great still image lens but, is a wonderful video lens.

I was given a lens by a friend who picked it up in Japan. It is a rather unusual Tokina; AF 28~70mm f2.8, AKA: NEW AT-X 270AF PRO.

This is the second evolution of Tokina's purchase of the Angenieux 28-70mm f/2.6 lens rights. In the USA, it was sold as the f/2.6-2.8 but, on the Japanese market is was sold as the f/2.8. The lens is really a wonderful oldie but goodie.

Angenieux stopped production of the lens because it was too costly to produce and make a profit. Tokina, found the same problem and only produced the lens for a short time. Tokina replaced it with ate cost-cutting SV (Special Value) lens which was really not up to the quality of the lens that it replaced.

I am thinking that, as much as I love the 35mm f/2 IS; if I had obtained the 28~70mm Tokina first, I might not have purchased the prime.

For me two favorites: EF400/f4-DOII - Lightweight, compact build and superb images, Zeiss Milvus 25F1.4 high quality build and pictures!

Never sold a single lens, so by now I own a lot of them :-)

Regards,
Rene

In order to fund my 35mm 1.4 L I had to trade my 70-200 F4. I don't have any lenses past 50mm right now... I do want to find a 135mm though, so there is that.

I found a great deal on a Canon 400mm f/5.6 through Canon's refurbished program. Very happy with the lens.

Hey, I don't mind being the lone crop-guy. My favorites lens purchased in 2017 is the EFs 18-135mm IS STM. Sold the Rokinon 12mm FE, Sigma 15mm FE, Sigma 12-24 II, 17-40, and 18-55 STM. Don't miss any of them, but I will likely replace the 12-24 II with an Σ8-16. I've got this pesky 70-200 f/4L IS waiting to be sold, too.

Just for spit and giggles, my second favorite lens purchased in 2017 is the EF 70-300mm IS USM II. Sehr nett!

Sold the 70-200. Bought the Σ8-16. Still really liking the 18-135 USM & 70-300 II.

I also added the 16-35 f/4 to my lineup. I like it better than my f/2.8L II, because I seldom need the extra speed as I don't do astrophotography.

Added the SIGMA ART 12-24MM F4 DG HSM and the SIGMA CONTEMPORARY 100-400MM F5-6.3 DG OS HSM LENS

Was never a wide angle user but this 12-24 is amazing. I have the 150-600 Contemporary but it is really to big to handhold so I wanted something with reach that I could comfortably hold.

I am contemplating selling my Sigma 35mm Art lens

Favorite bought: Sigma 100-400|C. Awesome lens for zoos, airshows, and the occasional total eclipse!

Miss the most: Canon 70-200 f/4L IS. Great lens for zoos but a bit short for airshows. Sold it to buy the Sigma 100-400|C. Miss it because it was my first L lens, but no regrets.
