I've been trying for three years to catch this "Cabbage Car" (a gutted F40PH with the prime mover and traction motors removed and a large roll-up door installed in the side allowing the former engine compartment to be used for baggage) actually heading a train instead of trailing. Finally had some success today.

I'd love to say this was an artistic decision, but I was actually taking pictures of a hawk at 600mm (see my recent BIF shots) when this train came by behind me. I wish I was in a better position for it, as this SD70M was at the head of the California Zephyr, but as nifty as the RX10IV is, it is a power zoom and not incredibly fast at recomposing. There must have been a problem with one of the two Amtrak P42's along the way.

i really like this! It shows the dirt so well, just the right contrast. More authentic appearing.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is running a February half term timetable and the loco being used is SR Schools Class No 926 "Repton".

The weather wasn't exactly stellar, rain wind and cold but that's nothing new!

Both great shots, I think the weather just adds to the atmosphere.
