Continuing Nifty's day out in San Francisco...

There is no lack of murals or street art.

San Francisco supports the arts in many forms and frequently combines them with mandatory "parklets" that must be built as part of a construction project. This parklet is home to three Beniamino "Benny" Bufano sculptures.

Our destination is the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, otherwise known as SF MOMA.
Unfortunately, Nifty arrived to late to see the Walker Evans photography exhibit which recently closed. SF MOMA is a huge 7 story structure with an open atrium.

Looking down from the 3rd floor.

...and looking up. Walking over that open bridge, 6 floors up, is not for the faint of heart.

Note the spiders just beyond the folks on the bridge.

There are lots of angles and nooks for a private moment.

I guess one could say that the building itself is modern art.

We'll begin with some examples of the SF MOMA collections and current exhibitions that I enjoy, and then a few that make my brain explode trying to understand them.

A few of my favorites:

Wayne Thiebaud's "Canyon Mountains" 2011-2012

"Portrait of Holly" by Richard Artschwager

IMAGE: https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Nifty/i-6SD97FK/0/f91968a0/X2/SF-1-19-X2.jpg

Holly Solomon was a famous New York art dealer. The artist stated: "I wanted something that had the feeling of drawing, the character of painting, and introduced the look of mechanical reproduction."

You need to see it close up and in person to appreciate how well Artschwager achieved his goal.

Great series Tim. I love the idea of the parklets, should be done in a
lot more places.

I agree. There are some interesting rooftop ones that I plan to visit with Nifty.

Well, I haven't been very active; too much work and still not feeling well. Allergies in TX are crazy at this time and they've been killing me. But I do appreciate your kind words, Levina.
Nifty will visit some cool places soon weather permitting. The forecast for the next few days isn't great but I can always shoot indoors.

Michael Jackson & Bubbles, a 1988 Porcelain by Jeff Koons. It was based on a publicity photo. Koon's exaggerated guilded treatment of the subjects, the cold shiny surfaces of their faces, point to disturbing issues of race, gender, sexuality, and the pursuit of beauty that are often part and parcel of our modern day reverence for public personas. His use of porcelain echoes the hollowness and fragility of celebrity status.
