A poster on Flickr said it was a Great Ani.
I'm good with just Ani :)

Greater Ani, makes sense. Your bird is slim of build and has distinctive bright eyes that the other anis don't. Nice find!

I learned elsewhere that it is pronounced "awny". At least that is what I was told.

Wonderful portraits. Looks like you are really enjoying NZ.

Thanks! We're back now and I'm slowly dealing with the photos. We were there for five weeks and both the scenery and the birds were utterly fabulous. Would love to go back, but the flights were gruelling - it's absolutely the opposite side of the world from the UK..

Lovely. A golden hour shot? I like the evocative lighting anyway.

In May 2012, after an unexpected snowfall in Yellowstone National Park, my wife and I purposely returned to a field where we had previously seen numerous Mountain Bluebirds, figuring their amazingly brilliant blue color would make a nice contrast with the new snow. Bluebirds were still the most numerous species in the meadow that also contained several Sage Thrashers, a few sparrows and a Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Wow Ronn,
That certainly is an amazingly beautiful bird. Very nice capture.

Sitting here in the winters biggest ice and snow storm, I went back to a sunny place for a bit. This guy is amazing.

Very nice shots of one of my favorite little guys (common yellowthroat). They can be very active, and tough to shoot.

Unique shot here

Thanks!!! Was losing light, so ended up in the longer shutter range. They are characters that typically do all sorts of strange poses before they are about to takeoff!!!

Which variety is this one?

I found what appears the same the otherday, but wasn't able to get as close!! So not as good of a shot as yours!

I like this because you also have a good composition-al (I'm making up new words!) environment with it. Sets it apart/tells a story! nice work!

Your other two shots are very nice, but I really love this one. They certainly are beautiful little birds.

Thanks, guys! They are such sweet looking birds. :-)
