I cannot upload a photo to Flickr for at least three hours.

Weja

I was able to upload it but then it went weird. Flickr has these seizures now and then.

The Shad are running and the local Osprey are making the most of it.

<snip>I mistakenly signed
up for a birding trip and not a bird photography trip.

One of the reasons we do not go on group tours any more is that everyone else is delighted, ecstatic, thrilled to bits if they see a bird a quarter of a mile away through powerful binoculars or a spotting scope. Frankly, I'd rather not see it at all if I can't get a fairly decent shot. That way I am not disappointed, disgruntled and downright grumpy! As I tell our guides, I am a photographer, not a birder.

PS : What a great shame that you were so unwell during your holiday. Commiserations. It's happened to me a couple of times, though I wasn't out of action for more than 3-4 days. Maybe you can get back to Panama again...

This is indeed a problem. I've been on both sides of the fence, having started out yonks ago with just with bins and 'scope. Now I'm hardly interested unless the bird is "lensable". A few years ago I signed up to a birding "holiday" in Canada. (Holiday turned out to be hardly the word, as for two weeks we didn't get more than five hours sleep a night!) There were perhaps a dozen of us on the trip and our guide initially assumed that we'd just be happy to see the birds and "tick them off" on our lists. He very soon realised that most of us were carrying cameras and wanted snaps. To his credit, he adapted instantly and very well too. I think everyone went home well satisfied (if very, very tired!)

When I came back from Panama over a year ago I was sick.
For 6 of the 12 days there I had a fever from 100-102F and I had an erosive
eschar on my right buttuck the size of a saucer. All that and I mistakenly signed
up for a birding trip and not a bird photography trip.
I'm just now finding a folder of shots from that trip I pushed aside for emotional reasons.
