Default JAPAN Spring 2007

Spent a week in Japan between March 16 - 23, shot 2,600 images and filtered out 444 for my blog and gallery. Temperatures varied from -10 nights to no higher than 10 Deg C days. This was my 3rd visit, last one being 10-15 years ago so it was great to be back esp now as a photographer and a love for Japanese cuisine. Check it out here http://shimworld.wordpress.com/2007/...n-spring-2007/

Wow, impressive. All of your shots have a real nice pop to them - do you up the saturation a lot in PP or does it come out of the camera like that? What are you using for camera/lenses?

Thanks!

I seem to get that a lot these days "real nice pop" so I must be doing something right and I am grateful you like them. I spend a lot of time during PP and do not batch process them at all ... because each photo and exposure tolerance is different, the amount of contrast and saturation cannot be applied in a general way.

I shoot with my trusty 20D and the gallery comprises of shots made with EF10-22 and EF24-70 ISO 400 available light, where flash was used, I had my 580EX with me although for travelling, the on-board flash is good enough for fill. If you read my other blog you'll see that I gave up my 1DMkII and kept the 20D for reasons that may be unique to me, who knows!

Hmm... I really love the distinct look that your photos have. Granted, I have seen other photographers with the same style, but its a style that is unique and I can tell that all the photos in your album were done by you because they are all similar in their PP. Each photo has that sharpness and "pop" that is distinct to your PP techniques.

Your photos of food are really exceptional - do you submit them to any food magazines or anything?

nice work!

Looks like a fun time!

Your post processing skills create a very nice mood, even to the mundane pictures.

I also enjoy your use of the wide angle lens.

Hello slappy sam,

Thanks again. No I have not actively promoted these images to food magazines. But I have produced images for magazine publications as featured here http://shimworld.wordpress.com/commercial/

Recently, thoughts about producing stock images crossed my mind and I am still very uncertain if it makes any economical sense to do so. Where I live, I am fortunate to see sunrise like this everyday and until very recently, I never bothered to capture them at all.

Hi embdude,

Japan was indeed fun and the cold weather kept us going. We live in the tropics with daily temps of 30 Deg C and 70-80% relative humidity. It's an extreme but nice change going to -10 to 10 Deg C weather, makes the whole experience interesting and memorable!

You may like to check out at my wide angle Muslim weddings if you're into it. http://shimworld.wordpress.com/weddings/

Thanks again for visiting.
