Perhaps I should have qualified this as 'abusive' bumping. Were you witness to what FM used to be? I am not exagerating when I say that at several points no thread older than 5 minutes ever survived the front page. 1 a day is not a problem imo, several times per minute is. And I'm glad to see POTN control that, but agree that banning a 1 a day status update is a little extreme. Sorry if you took my statement as a personal attack, it was not intended as such against any of the bump practitioners except those who abuse it.

And again, I understand the complexities involved in managing that and the suckiness that rotten users add to the equation. NikonCafe has a 30 day membership and 25 post minimum before you can even see their buy and sell. While that also seems extreme it quite nicely nips in the bud the potential for 'hit and run' posters scamming on their first post or trying excessive bumps or retroactive thread modifications to scam a buyer. This is precisely my point, there are alternatives to what is being done here and those are not community killing!

Pot/Kettle/Etc. Where was I abusive or on any rant? I think I have stated my case in rational terms and even admitted when I mispoke, see above. And now unless there is something else directed my way, I fade out of this thread once again.

Knew it, I found some posts where you can change forum template to sort by a different column on that table, but was just waiting to see what the future changes would bring. I personally would rather use vbulletin, I am using phpbb on my own site, and it stinks for configuration options, at least the version I have. Let's see what rants this latest change will bring, but if you now allow replies and post edits, the remaining issues should dissolve except for the latest point made about changing the contents of the original post after a sale.

BTW, I like the signature idea, I posted a link in mine for the lens I am selling, as well as my heatware feedback link.

A bit off topic here but I don't even think it is tweaking the template but a configuration setting. As for vb vs phpbb. Do the switch vb is well worth the money.

It was hard to tell if it was a template or configuration setting from the posts I was reading, but I like it. What is great is that if you want to find the threads that have the latest activity, just click on the last post column, and it will resort from the new initial post creation date over to the last post date, so you have the best of both worlds now. To see new original posts, refresh the forum, to see the latest replies that are supposed to be price reductions, click the last post column.

please put some sort of min post count or time for new accounts to post in the classified sections. These new rules are confusing the n00bs who all don't seem to read the rules and make problems ever worse...

Newbs aren't reading the rules anyway, it has always been an issue. Doesn't matter if there are new rules, or if they have to have a min post count. The conscientious ones will read and observe the rules, the others that just want to use POTN to sell quickly won't observe the rules. I have't seen any worse behavior from newbies selling now than before the rule change, they just add reply after reply, but now, they aren't bumping their threads anymore with the sort order changed.

A post count or time restraint will not make anybody read the rules if they didn't in the first place.

If there's a 30 day lockout and accounts are banned when they break the rules repeatedly they will, at least that's my experience on other boards.

Obviously, I'm the village idiot around here. I started a similar topic in general chat, never knowing this was here. I rarely visit this section of the forum.

I've now seen the arguments on both sides of the coin. I carefully read CDS's responses and reasons therefor. (Yes, Jake, that is the proper spelling of therefor {without the "e" in that case}.

I know full well who owns this forum and it is his to do as he sees fit. I love this place, and I'll obviously live with the rule changes.

But plain and simple, having heard both sides, the new sell forum is crippled beyond belief. It stinks.

Because we have now sorting (by thread) bumps do not really matter. So, ability to reply to posts is on again.

You can also edit your own posts now. Please state the reason of edit in respective text box in editor.

Of course there is a catch: I disabled new posts to marketplace from showing in "new posts" page, to prevent yet one way of bumping ads.
