Default 1D charger

Ok, thought I would share this with 1D owners. If you are like me and have the 1D, but perhaps it did not come with the original charger, like I was, this is worth a look for the price

I also have the MAHA C777-PlusII charger, which is just OK. It discharges fine, but charges the batteries by making contact with the silver pins, instead of plugging into the designated socket like the Canon charger. The MAHA also takes forever to charge (4-6 hours) and gets your battery very, very hot.

I picked up this new charger Friday and it works extremely well and fast (90 minutes to full charge). Only downside is no refresh button. But if you are in need of a second (much smaller) charger, this might be for you...

Ok, enough of the free advertising. Just thought I would share.

Sure beats the prices Ive seen on the original charger. Heck you could buy a spare camera for close to what they want for the charger.
I really dont see the big deal in having refresh capability since supposedly the NiMH battery doesnt have memory issues like NiCad.

It sucks those old electrons out of there and replaces them with new ones?

I don't know the reason for it either, but if the charger has it, I use it every third time anyway.

Bump this one back up since it helped me find a better price on a charger for a 1D I picked up without a charger.

I ordered one and received it in 2 days... charged up two batteries in about 90 minutes each. Can't beat the price of it!

Quick question regarding this,
I just got myself 1D2. it come with original battery and charger. Now all my previous battery and charger does not have this 'refresh' button. What is this refresh button for?
I also noticed when I got the camera, the battery was full charge (guessing..) and after I use until the battery flat, I charge according to the manual book (120 minutes) but it seem it does not last as long as when I got it. how long should I charge the battery and what 'refresh' button for? Thank you

i am not 100% sure..I think the refresh drains the battery completely then fully charges it giving it back the ability to hold more of a charge. my 1D3 factory charger has it and I do it every once in a while.

Yup, the refresh button draws down all the charge. NiMH batteries need this periodically, every second or third charge, to clean out the memory that accrues in them. It makes them last longer. It's also better to use these kinds of batteries until they go flat, then recharge, rather than to recharge them from a half charge. If you have to recharge before they are flat, then refresh first.

You should also charge them up till they are fully charged. Wait till the green light comes on, and then leave it on there for a couple hours longer if you have the time. Batteries will pogo when being charged. The charger will see it as fully charged, then turn off the charge, but then the chemicals inside will balance out to less than a full charge. Leaving it on charge for a few hours after it shows full, will then let it finish the charge in small stages.

If you treat these batteries good, they will last for years. Treat them bad, and they just won't last.

Oh, you better believe those Fred-Flintstone technology 1D batteries have a memory. Refreshing them occasionally makes a huge difference in how long my 1D batteries last. I also try to run them down in the camera (1D-MkII) as far as possible before sticking in a freshly charged battery.
