Default tour of california...sierra road.......

for the third year running i photographed the tour of california three miles up sierra road.

leading the pack were Robert Gesink of rabobank and levi leipheimer of team astana. gesink won the stage and leipheimer, who won the race last year and placed third in the tour de france, took the race lead.

americans dave zabriskie of slipstream and chris horner of astana were close behind.

sunday's prologue winner fabian cancellara (CSC) of switzerland climbs surpisingly well for a big man!

american big george hincapie of team high road puts the hurt to jens voigt (ger) of team CSC and a credit agricole rider.

former three-time world road race champ oscar freire of team rabobank hocks a loogey while a gerolsteiner rider grimaces in pain.........

current road race champ for the past two years paolo bettini (quick step) suffers big time in his last year of racing and the antler dude awaits him.

and finally the bunch arrives!

Nice series - I like the commentary, adds quite a bit to the images... What's with the antler guy?

Great shots. Love the commentary. I've just gotten seriously into Road Cycling in the last six months so great to see the images of the big names and nice to see that they suffer just like anyone else on the hills.

thanx guys! i talked to the antler guy and you have to remember the term fan is derived from fanatic!

i'm sure if he isn't on you tube he will be soon because he will be with the race all the way to pasadena.

this guy was an animal. you'll note he was wearing sidis with MTB cleats. you could hear the clack of metal like a steel shod clydesdale as he trotted up and down the hill, never busting a sweat.

the antlered one was warming up before the riders arrived and when they did he ran along with each lone rider, each grupetto offering words of encouragement and water.

all hail antler man!

antler man chases and catches leipheimer and gesink. note the bottles of water in his jersey.

antlerman helps a quickstep rider over the toughest part of the climb.

the race's lantern rouge waves off a bidon from antlerman.

Wow! Love every one of them!

Zabriskie's mustache so far is the highlight of the tour.
