Lightbulb My Home Made Rstrap

Thanks for ideas from the other 2 threads about the Rapid strap. Here's my DIY version.

I don't use the tripod much, so I made some connectors out of aluminum. The strap is from one of my camera bag. My neck can't handle neck straps, and still don't get used to shoot with the Rstrap. But it's lot more comfortable to carry the camera with it, specially with a heavy lens, and I can unhook the strap and shoot with the hand strap very quickly.

very good and clean one,

just a question though, is it "legally" ok to make one as long as its for personal use?
i saw on r-strap's website that the patent is still pending or something.

Looks nice, but hows the reliability? Sorry I've never heard of these things

Thanks. I wouldn't worry about legal issue because all my DiY stuffs are for personal use. Beside while the concept is similar, my strap does not look like copy of the real one, sort like Ford vs Chevy.

I work with metal and fasteners as my day job, I can tell you it's as safe as I would with looping the neck strap through the eyelets of the camera. But as with everything elso, if not careful with gears, crap will happen.

Though I wouldn't use that plastic hook for heavy gears.

Looks cool enough to try to replicate. Sure beats the $60+ Rapidstrap wants.

Welcome to the club, aren't these awesome?

I see you've got one going through the habuka (or similar) handstrap... did you have to drill that out, or can you just unscrew the other bolt?

No, I didn't take out the handstrap knob, just bolt the connector to the bottom of it. Though that gives me another idea, thanks

Awesome work, OP.

If you're still following this thread, is there any chance that you could post a photo of the entire strap by itself? I'd like to see how you close the loop, so to speak. How do you connect both ends of the strap together to form the loop?

I'm building my own as we speak and I'm trying to decide what the best method to do this would be.

Thanks!

Here you go. Basically it's a open end loop, so the whole strap stays adjustable.

Good looks, only thing I would change is maybe a threaded gate so you can lock it down.

What are the chances of the gate "accidentally" opening and cause the camera to fall? Slim to none?

+1

That's the part that will fail first.
