Ok, so first off let me say that I am just tossing this out there. Running it up the flagpole, as it were. But ... what if we started a informal "contract database". Just a download area of releases, contracts, copyright statements and what not that various professionals on the board are using.
Of course there would have to be explicit statement of it not being "legal advice". But let's face it, most (not all but most) of the photographers here that are flirting with the line between amatuer and professional are not going to seek legal advice for thier first contracts/releases and what nots. We all should, but we should all eat our vegetables too. And you see how well that works out. It's just a thought. I figured that it could really be a great resource for blossoming amatuers to be able to use directly or to use as a guideline in writing thier own releases. Now, let's see who salutes. - Digital Prophet - |

For one thing, if the contract form has the word "CONTRACT" at the top, it can be fairly intimidating to some clients. If the same wording has the word "AGREEMENT" at the top, it is much less intimidating.
So, it kind of depends on where you think you are positioned with respect to your clients. Are you trying to lure them into an agreement, or are you trying to scare them off to consult with a real lawyer? ---Bob Gross--- |

Well when I used "contract" I was using in a very general sense. I am sure that you will agree that threads asking questions and requesting go-bys for model releases and other agreements/contracts/paper trail building blocks are fairly common. I just thought that it would be a nice asset if as a group we could collectively gather the forms that have worked well for us and create a library that amatuers who are starting out could use as a resource.
I know that there are a good number of people who could benefit from being able to see releases and other forms that are tried and true. - Digital Prophet - |

I think this is a great idea! Who is going to host the database?

Would this entale Contracts to suit each Country, as all our laws differ.
eg: in Australia we can see Boobies on TV after 8.30pm but in the US they are always blurred out (like on Survivor) |
