Default $600 moon vs. $1300 moon

1. Taken over a year ago with my old $500 Sony H5 camera, with 36-432mm equivalent in 35mm, plus $100 1.7x teleconverter= 734.4mm from 7.1mp image

2. Taken with my XTi, Sigma 70-200mm. 320mm from 10mp with the 1.6x crop factor.

These are 100% crops, or pretty close anyways. I realize the first one has more detail because it was not a full moon, so this isn't so much about IQ.

QUESTION: With a 2x teleconverter on the 70-200 I'd get about 640mm of reach, how would this compare to 734mm since it's 400D-10mp vs 7mp on the Sony?

Default Re: $600 moon vs. $1300 moon

it seems to be fair that the moon phase should be identical to really compare. The side lighting on the first shot appears to be sharper because the craters are more apparent.

I agree with your statement. My question is really about the size- would having a 2x teleconverter (400mm focal length worth of lens) on my 10mp XTi have the same (or larger?) size moon then the second picture which is 7mp. ?
