How to start selling prints to a local shop?

*sigh* I am SO incredibly overwhelmed right now you will never know. I'm only 20 yrs. old and know nothing about legal stuff when it comes to photography, or how to go about doing anything without getting burned. (I've done some reading online and a few books on the business aspect, but it kinda went over my head and is just so overwhelming.)

To make a long story short, I have these 2 photos that would be outstanding to sell. (not by my own judgement, though they are 2 of the best in my porfolio, but by many other friends and also people in the business of this)
I NEED to get them copyrighted legally (burn to a cd and take....where?) and then go in to a few local shops I already know would LOVE them for the reason...

A few people have already seen it and shown them around to other people who really like it, so I'm really scared the idea will get stolen and I NEED to get the ball rolling on this thing very soon.

So, how do I go about doing this as far as steps go?

1. Get them copyrighted
2. Show them to the local shops
3. Print them

What am I missing? I don't want to get burnt or anything. PHEW. Thanks so much.
