Default Want to shoot dim sum similar like this but dont know howto

Hi < I want to shoot some dim sum pics similar like this, however I want to add some trails of sauce on the back ground.

but i cant figure out how this was done.....it seems the light is coming from just about everywhere and thats impossible, it must lay on a background doesnt it?

anyhow anyone can point me to the right direction how to shoot dim sum whilst having a total black background, pls note i will put some sauce on my b/g.

could it be this is placed on a glass surface, which is suspended above a black background and lit from below? if so how to get rid of any reflections ?

I like that flash mount/holder to the left. I know what is meant when people reference a "talking light stand", but what is yours called - a "soft touch" stand?

Cannedheat that is indeed a very sophisticated multifunctional lightweight light stand, only con is it doesnt fold up so easy for on location shooting, then again have you ever seen a lightstand you can take a nap on?
