Default Need help strobing black bike.

Im a n00b when it comes to off camera strobes. I have a Sigma EF-500DG Super and Sunpak 383 with ebay triggers, light stands, and two umbreallas.

I went out tonight and tried taking pictures with the flashes off camera and I guess they turned out ok. With only having two flashes, whats the best placement? Should I have used my umbrellas(Shoot through and also have a black cover)?

1. Setup:

2:

Theres a lot of hot spots from the flash. What can I do next time to get better results? Should I try a lower flash power and longer shutter?

That won't make any difference. Black can look really good, but the trick is to put the light on something like a white wall or garage door behind you, & use that to reflect in the bike.

Do you have a shot at that time without the strobes?

Better would be to try that same shot just before/after sunrise without the strobes. I'll bet you'll like that a LOT more.
See the "Tips" thread in my Sig.

EDIT: It wouldn't hurt to read through this thread, too:

i have a black car and feel your pain. I usually try to shoot in the corners of the 'subject' (car 3 flashes, bikes 2) but you may wanna back up your flashes and move them out a bit...Maybe try some umbrellas but use weights to hold them down.

I think your shots are good, but i'd try maybe a little earlier in the day and use some editing techniques to bring 'out' the black>> shoot in raw!
