Default Ze Kid

Here's another one of my fisheye experiments. I was a little too close to the subject and my flash burned his forehead. I did my best to salvage that in post processing, but it still looks a bit unnatural. Oh well. C&C welcome.

Shot during the 2009 Denver Tea Party, at the bottom steps of the State Capitol. You could use a smile next time kid.

Very cool! Was this from a tea party?

Yup, this was shot on tax day during the tea party in Denver. I came in expecting tear gas, fire hoses and cocktails molotov... Everyone was too civilized... the kids probably just wanted to get over with it, hence the straight face.

Thanks for the feedback!

Unusual but very cool. I like it. The post processing, the lighting, and the poses are all right on the money. Very nice.

That's some seriously sweet stuff, makes me want a fisheye now. Never seen it applied that way

I like the effect, but I keep looking away form the main subject at the background, it's a bit busy, but maybe this adds to the photo

Thanks wagonwheel!
Sometime, I feel that photography is 90% about luck, 10% about skills and maybe gear. I get a fair amount of lucky shots, but those calculated shots are really really rare. I gotta say I've shot and blinded those poor kids with my flash about 20 times before I was able to get a satisfying shot. What I am trying to say is that luck takes all the credit away sometimes

I gotta warn you, fisheye adds a pretty good 20 lbs on everyone's face. It works great on kids, or very very photogenic ladies, but most of them might get horrified by some of the extra weight it adds.

On the good side, it allows really good close up ( I was literally inches away from the boy), and when shooting people, you can get really sloppy with your composition.

Yeah, the background is a bit busy. I couldn't play with the DoF, so I tried to turn the background into dusk by using my flash, but it wasn't powerful enough (this was shot around noon time). I tried to dodge and burn the background a bit, but it didn't look natural then.

I applied the same concept of underexposing the background on this shot below. It worked here because the background was naturally a stop or two under the main subject.

Thanks for the comments.

Now that's what I had in mind. Great execution!
