I was playing around with some entries for the Canon photo5 competition on the weekend, was a lot of fun even if most of them didn't turn out quite how I wanted them - that's what I get for leaving them to the last minute...here's a collage of some of the shots: ![]() |

Lightroom was perfect. I marked all the photos and then in the exif data under capture time, you can adjust the time of all photos by + or - x hours. Wish I knew that many hours ago

These are pretty cool, nice work. Where did the idea for the Banana shot come from? |

I was originally intending something with drops of milk and food colouring, as I saw a how-to a month or so ago (darned if I could find it now though) - and as I was getting all the stuff ready I thought how many thousands of that type of entry they were likely to get. Luckily, the fruit bowl filled with bananas was sitting on the bench, right next to where I'd put the yellow food colouring and milk.... Call it a light bulb moment It was great fun though - I found banana skins go brown and yucky remarkably quickly (our fruit bowl was much emptier at the end), and found I REALLY need to get myself a remote trigger and possibly an assistant - trying to pump yellow milk through a hollowed-out banana with an air-mattress-pump using one hand (holding the banana in the right place with the other), while trying to get the timing to coincide with a 10-second timer was hilarious. I had to hose our deck afterwards, and completely change clothes - but somehow I managed not to get any mess on my camera, so I was happy - even if the shot could have been so much better |

LOL
Sounds like it was lots of fun! It's a pretty cool photo though, well worth the trouble. I think if you coate the skins with lemon juice they don't go brown as quickly (same as Apples). |

Update. Photo and Video have just returned the camera, just under $800 to fix. Let's hope this shutter last's longer than the first one.

That's a pretty fast fix Alex!
Shots taken on 25th Oct, back repaired 4th Nov. That's 7 working days!! (taking off Labour Day). That is un-heard off, it surely didn't go to Canon NZ |

... Today was a fairly full on day camera wise. Xmas prep has hit full swing, and frankly, bonkers amounts of stuff turned up today. So what can I tell you? Main priority of the day is getting my Kodak Portra 400NC for my Diana, it's like life would have ended without that. After that we got hold of the new Sony Alpha 850 today which sat alongside the A900. The damn things are so similar without looking at the number on the front you couldn't tell which was which. Motto, if you're buying a FF Sony (!!) then save yourself a grand. Following on from that, the S90's turned up finally. Verdict after a good play with a production one. Awesome. Anyone wanting a small pocket compact with manual settings and decent IQ needs look no further. The only problem is persuading the significant other that the household needs one... Finally, just got an Orbis arm here, and am about to play with it, and get it all set up. I'm a massive fan of the Orbis, and of the company itself, and believe that Mr Orbis is doing what he's doing with some decent common sense and innovation at heart. That said, the bracket/camera mounting gadget thing has been waaaaaaay too long in coming, and I'm very excited about finally being able to use it in a mobile manner. (Oh, and nice to see Jono again today, even if only very briefly! (If you're lurking...)

Actually been a bit hectic today, as opposed to a mad lunch break and time to sort fiddly stuff later. Made it go quick which was good... I can confirm the 5D/grip/24-70/Orbis arm/OC-E3/580EX II/Orbis combo weighs a fuggin tonne. But it works. Interestingly enough, the instructions for it suggest using the lens hood, which seeing as I often use the ringflash with the 24-70 is a bit odd, as the hood's furking huge. But honestly, from a few quick snaps I see little effect on the light quality, and the hood really 'anchors' the ring on the whole bracket setup. It'd be perfect if you could anchor the top of the Orbis to the top of the off-camera flash cord somehow, which shouldn't be difficult. No movement at all then...

We have them at $799.
Think a large Ixus in size, and 90% of the ergonomics of a G11/G10 with all the functionality, and all the image quality and you're there.
