My guess is no update until after the current rebate expires. I pulled the trigger last week on a Mk I because of this. I need it before 10 January when I'll be in Tokyo shooting the sumo basho.

I would "guess" it won't be updated if I just bought the current one too.

Don't buy the current one! Or at least, buy mine so I can put aside some cash for the version II!

I'm crossing my fingers. We still have a little under two months to the end of the year. The current 70-200 2.8 IS of course is already a very good lens and I'm glad I have had mine, but I'd still be excited for the newer version with improved optics and IS.

Oh and I worked out that I can afford the lens by February or March next year (hopefully I get some more work on the side so I can afford it sooner). So I hope they release it soon so that by Feb or March it will be easy to get.

Either that, or I have the money when it's announced so I can go and be the first on the waiting list.

I might have a dilemma. I'm saving for the 100 2.8L macro at the moment, but with this potential new 70-200, I might have to rethink my priorities. Although, if I get the latter, I will most likely sell my current 70-200 and recuperate some money, so maybe I can still afford to get both inside the next 6 months?
