um last I check it was "safe" lol I rarely use it tho, I just need some more money for a nicer flash. Looking for a used one, if you find a nice used one let me know! lol

It's because some older flashes have a really high flash trigger voltage which can actually fry your circuit. The vivitar 283s are like 300V which on most modern cameras would actually be a very bad idea. But most of the canon prosumer and pro bodies seem to have the circuit for it so... its safe.

30D is a prosumer just like the 5D really...

well regardless... I am looking into a new flash not sure which one yet but I am thinking the 50mm and a flash is better for my style of photography
