What is a reasonable price to shoot a band? One pic one location price, and moving to another location to shoot another pic. About a half days work.
If you dont mind, I wouldnt mind knowing what you charge or have you a set price list for bands? Thanks much! |

I did a band(Revelus) photo shoot recently and I charged them my normal hourly rate($75/hr),I shot for about 2 hours. I retained all copyrights to all the images and I wrote a limited use release for them for their myspace page. Hope this helps you out. Check out their page to give you some ideas.

I do a lot of local bands.....I charge $500 for a basic shoot but they really hire me to give them the creative editing that I do for band shoots. If I was doing a half day shoot it would be substantially more -- remember not only are you shooting, using your equipment for the time, but you have time to edit and pay everyone in between from the tax man etc.
For your first few - change a nominal fee- make a name for yourself and work on marketing your skills at a cost that the market you are in can digest - and have fun at it!

Upon receipt of full payment, Photographer grants to the Client the following nonelectronic rights in the Work." http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=586467

I state in my contract with bands that only promotional usage is allowed. If they want to use the images commercially, then the price gets increased. I include the use on their website/myspace/facebook, etc., with credit to the photographer to be included with the photo.
The worst thing you can do is shoot for free. If you are just starting out, then you can always request a "token payment". This way you are receiving compensation for your time, but the band may be getting a deal on the cost.

Here is my plan. I am going to shift to shooting bands here shortly once I get my other lighting in.
Shoot 2-3 bands for free. Yes, free. Photo rights for myspace, facebook, online use only. Must have credit given to me each time picture is posted. From there I will charge $75 an hour, with an expected 2 hour session unless they want multiple locations. reasoning for this: I need some shots for my portfolio. I know I would never pay a random photog to shoot my band if he had nothing band related to show me. Just because they can shoot solo portraits, airplanes, cars, wildlife, etc doesnt mean my band photos will be what I am looking for. With my 2 shoots I want to establish an editing style so the paying bands can see what they will be getting. |

I think a good rule of thumb when charging is to charge 3 times the amount it cost you to do the shoot.
Having said that, you may need to tailor you're pricing depending on the bands $$ state. |
