I am thinking about buying the Sigma 50 1.4 to replace my lost Canon 50 1.4, what do you think?
Also I am thinking about adding a Canon 16-35 to my lens collection, any comment please?

I have both the 16-35MkII & the Sigma 50mm f1.4.
The 16-35 is flat-out fantastic - buy it without hesitation! The Sigma has beautiful optical qualities. It focusses pretty reliably on my 5D, not bad on my recently moved-on 20D and is very incosistent on my 50D. Phil

I left it at a hotel during a trip.........I can blame that to my wife, she was pushing to check out.

this is one of the more epic POTN lost lens stories: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=557519 i'm assuming you already tried to call the hotel...you'd almost think they'd still have it...oh well... |

I feel for you, I lost a camera bag, battery, $150 polarizer, and some other things because the friends who "packed" all of our stuff into the cars didn't bother to pack my bag(thankfully my camera, flash, and lens were all on a tripod). It was about 4am after a meteor shower and right before we left, me and my diabetic friend had decided to go explore the huge wooded area and managed to get lost. He had given too much insulin and only had a tiny piece of candy on him so we freaked out but eventually managed to get out. Despite the circumstances I really shouldn't have trusted friends with my camera gear(at least not those friends)...

You shouldn't be to hard on yourself, it's fairly small and I could see myself doing that with mine.
Now I remember reading something here quite some time ago about someone leaving their tripods scattered about while in the field. That would be a lot tougher for me to swallow given the price difference.

It could be worse, someone stepped on my 50 1.4!
It's in Canon for repair now. |
