It's not an insult, I have spent at least three years trying to describe to people that you can get frames showing action, whether it's motorsports, football or birds and animals, that you will never see shooting one shot. I guess you just have to see it for yourself to have it finally dawn on you that high frame rate and high dollars are there for a real world reason.

It isn't meant to be an insult to anyone. I said that I don't believe that it takes much in the way of skill to do that so I choose not to shoot that way. That's my opinion and my choice. Others may have different opinions and make different choices and they're entitled to do so. It's all part of the debate that goes on here. We all have different opinions about the best way of doing things and the best way isn't the same for everyone.

One person is talking about getting "more sellable images" (where 10fps helps), and the other is talking about getting "the perfect shot" (where good timing trumps whatever many fps). Remember: 10fps at 1/250s still means you miss 240/250s.

This debate could run and run, and at the end of the day, I really couldn't care less how anyone else shoots. You do what works for you and what gives you (or your client) what you need.
For what it's worth though my shooting style has me taking single shots 99% of the time. That is true for whether I shooting road racing, a rally, autograss (that's the UK version of dirt oval racing - plenty of bouncing around and dirt rooster tails too) or whatever. That shooting style has served me for years and allowed me to do paid work for national and local publications. I also rarely shoot anything over 1/320s. I also find I can still take 3 or 4 shots in very rapid succession with single shot mode anyway if I have to. However, this is what works for me. If it doesn't work for someone else, fine. If someone else finds they are better served by rattling off dozens of frames of every car on every lap then that is also fine as far as I am concerned. I really couldn't care less. The best use I have found for the 8 fps of my mk II is shooting podiums. It's amazing how easy it is to get someone with their eyes shut with single shots |

Me, too. I don't see it as an insult. Rather it's a statement of fact as he sees it.
Lighten up, & enjoy your stay here.

Indeed. Lots of people on here will agree with Glenn and plenty will disagree. Shoot however you like and don't get so easily offended.
Personally speaking i stick with Single shot for Motorsports, but on my rare ventures into (proper) Football and Rugby, i use high speed drive when necessary. Horses for courses etc.

On general (all photo subjects) I expect 1 in 10-30 to be printed. I don't like deleting photos, so the disks are getting filled and many of the photos not printed are very close to the ones I do print. I just figure that it is better to have taken a photo too much than a photo too little.

I really do hope that moderators are allowed to have an opinion. Or it would be quite dull to be a moderator.

Other times however, I've done the same for sparks, flames, or whatever, and missed it all. Sometimes you get lucky...
